The One Room Challenge Reveal!

Oh my goodness, what a week! It was seriously down to the wire getting everything ready and I could really go for a nap right about now, but I am so excited to share with you the final result!

If you’re new here, welcome! You can catch up on the weekly progress posts and get the full story with these links:

Are you ready for the reveal? A little reminder of what I started with:

Arianna Belle One Room Challenge Week 1 Before Photo

Here’s what my living-dining room looks like now:

I brought in purples and blues with pillows, art, and other accessories. The fact that all the big pieces are neutral in color, makes the space versatile and will allow us to very easily switch out the colors whenever the mood strikes.

My Pup Little Foot and Tour of our LA Home

1-Arianna&LittleFoot_AriannaBelle

Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been MIA here lately. Have been really busy working hard behind the scenes on setting up a foundation for the shop to grow to the next level.

I wanted to share with you photos from a fun home tour shoot we did late last year, just before we moved out of our Los Angeles condo.  The shoot was for the stylish pet friendly living website Pretty Fluffy and features my furry lovable companion, Little Foot. Photos were taken by the sweet and talented photographer Alicia Rius of Frame Your Pet.

This was a one-bedroom condo we had purchased back in 2008 and lived in for a few years, then decided to rent out for awhile (during which time we lived in this home), then moved back in for a couple of months before selling it so we could move closer to family and get something with more office space.

One of my favorite things about the space was that it was light and bright.  I loved the fresh paint color which we carried throughout the kitchen, dining space and living room.

4-diningspace-AriannaBelle

white round table, clear chairs, double gourd lamps

This spot near the window in the dining space is where Little Foot always loved to sit in the morning to catch some sunlight.

5-LittleFoot-nearwindow2-AriannaBelle

We kept Little Foot’s toys stored in a stylish magazine holder, which made it easy to move from space to space and keep them out of sight when not in use.

This was my office space, a corner of the living room. Small, but functional.

Little Foot looked handsome in his greek key collar from Blueblood Living.

9-LittleFoot-in-living-room-AriannaBelle

I loved having these two tall bookcases flanking the fireplace. They added height to the space and provided great storage for our books and my collection of magazines.

Little Foot’s second favorite spot to hang out was right on top of the sofa. I think he liked it because it gave him a view of outside and allowed him to watch over the home, like a king.

In our bedroom we went bold with dark blue paint on the walls, and dressed up the bed with Arianna Belle pillows, of course!

My Home Tour + Sources

As mentioned in a previous post, earlier this month, Style Me Pretty Living, one of my favorite lifestyle sites, featured a tour of my previous home. Since the feature went up, I’ve received inquires about the sources of some things, so I thought I’d post a complete list here for anyone else who may also be curious to know. Because the apartment was a rental that we planned to live in for only about 2 years or so and we had other priorities financially, when it came to decorating and furnishing it, we did so on a small budget, splurging only on a few select pieces.  BTW, this post from 2012 shows a few photos of what the place looked like when we first moved in!

FAQ

Q: The base of my Docksta table gets dirty easily from people resting their feet on it, how do you keep yours clean?

A: Magic Erasers

Q: How did you hide the wires and cords of your wall mounted TV in your living room?

A: We used these cable management covers we found on Amazon.  I’ve also seen similar ones at home improvement stores.

Cynthia Collins Home Tour

So delighted that our Raja Embroidery pillow was featured in Domaine Home as part of the ‘Get the Look’ portion of their post on interior designer Cynthia Collins’ home tour. Cynthia’s home is absolutely beautiful and her design aesthetic definitely resonates with me.  Each space is bright and airy, yet cozy, with just the right dose of color.

Irene’s Colorful Abode

My friend Irene‘s beautiful SoCal home was featured on Apartment Therapy this week! If you haven’t seen the tour yet, you’re gonna love it. I’ve had the pleasure of stepping foot inside her home and it really is as fun and welcoming as the photos show (possibly even more so!).  This girl sure knows how to effectively bring together multiple colors, textures and patterns. She’s one talented lady!

View the full tour here and come back here tomorrow for a How I Organize post featuring Irene!

Megan Mullally’s Home

My favorite feature in the latest issue of Elle Decor, is that of Megan Mullally’s (Karen Walker!) Hollywood home. A quick look:

In the dining room, I love the idea of using Suzani panels to add interest and color to the walls.

Megan-Mullally-hollywood-homes-ed0910-06

I love that the accessories bring in fun punches of color in the living room…

Megan-Mullally-hollywood-homes-ed0910-02

…and in the breakfast room. When the room is otherwise pretty neutral it doesn’t take a lot to make a high impact.

Megan-Mullally-hollywood-homes-ed0910-04

In the bedroom I love the simplicity of the decor…

Megan-Mullally-hollywood-homes-ed0910-08

…the floor-to-ceiling windows (and the gorgeous light they bring in!) make the room.

Megan-Mullally-hollywood-homes-ed0910-09

Last but not least, her pups are so incredibly adorable! I wonder if they go to a local LA dog park…I think they’d get along with Little Foot 🙂

Home Tour: Leah Balderson

Canadian House and Home’s latest issue featured five “small and smart spaces”, my favorite of which was this glamorous little condo. It’s home to Leah Balderson, owner of a Peridot, a decorative homewares store, and was decorated with the help of Tamara Wouters.

Picture 58
The neutral palette is soothing and allows the home to feel spacious and uncluttered. The bleached floors are a casual element that give it a bit of a beachy vibe.
Picture 52
This home is un-apologetically feminine and glamorous. There are a lot of beautiful details like the glass leaf chandelier and the gold louis chairs upholstered in script fabric.
Picture 53Picture 56
The bedspread looks incredibly plush and the bedframe has such beautiful ornate detail.
Picture 57
The mosaic bust, decorative pillows, and gold Morroccan light fixture add sparkle. The light placed underneath the unique nail-head nightstand creates a warm glow.

Designer Spotlight: Melissa Warner of MWM

Back in January, I spotlighted the very talented design trio at Massucco Warner and Miller Interior Design and Decoration. Today I’m excited to be featuring one of the latest projects by the lovely Melissa Warner, head of the Los Angeles office. Melissa sent me photographs of a San Francisco home she recently finished for a young family. I was absolutely delighted to receive them in my inbox! I think you’ll see why…

I was lucky enough to do a little Q&A with Melissa. Here’s what she had to say about the design project:

AB: What was the goal of the project?
M: A fresh take on the classic! The goal was to reinvent the traditional with clever details, bold patterns, and color for miles. I wanted to make the home functional and kid friendly, while maintaining a hip vibe and uniqueness that reflects the personality and youthfulness of its owners.

AB: Where did you find inspiration?
M: The clients! This young family is filled with energy and I wanted to make sure the house represented their lifestyle.

AB: What was your biggest challenge?
M: Using kid friendly fabrics without sacrificing style!

AB: What was your favorite design resource you used?
M: I worked with a local upholster who was so patient with me as we worked out every detail of tufting, nailheads, welting…the list goes on and on. I really enjoyed working with him to customize each piece and make it one of a kind.

AB: Which was your favorite room and why?
M: That’s a tough one but I’d have to say the little girl’s room! I had so much fun designing each detail of this space… I can’t resist the turquoise and watermelon combination.

AB: Did you have to make any big compromises?
M: The client was a dream! Our visions for the space were so consistent so I didn’t have to make any big compromises.

AB: Did you use any inexpensive pieces?
M: We did definitely mix and match higher end pieces with less expensive items. In the little boy’s room, the beds are custom made but we paired them with lucite nesting tables from CB2 -a reasonably priced and chic solution!
